Travel Adventures

After retiring in 2006, I started doing taxes during the tax season.  That gave me plenty of free time after the tax season ended April 15.
  • In May 2008, we flew to Anchorage, Alaska, rented a car with unlimited mileage, and drove 1500 miles all over in one week.
  • In April 2009, I wanted to hike to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal.  I went alone.
    - Soon afterwards we visited Australia for 3 weeks - mostly East and South coasts.
  • From 2008 to 2010, I taught in India.  From 2011 to 2014, I got a chance to teach in China.  Before or after teaching, I tacked on sightseeing trips.
  • In 2011, a two week trip to Tibet to do circumambulation of the Kailash/Mansarovar, and to visit Mount Everest Base Camp in Tibet.  I also visited Shanghai.
  • In 2012, I did a lot of traveling to US National Parks in addition to a couple of days in Beijing.
  • In Fall 2013, my first trip to Europe was for 3 weeks, including a one week cruise to Greece from Venice.
  • Around Christmas 2014, I really wanted to go to South America - the Galapagos and Machu Picchu - but that being the rainy season there, we scrapped that plan and went to Yucatan (Cancun) and Costa Rica in Central America instead.  Same experience - ruins and nature - but NOT as further South - still in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • In 2015, we took a two week cruise of the Baltic Capitals (plus Norway on our own for a week) as our summer vacation.
  • In Summer 2016, we finally did the Galapagos and Machu Picchu, and then more US National Parks around December.
  • Soon after, in January 2017, we did Egypt, Tanzania safari and Istanbul, Turkey.  More US National Parks in August when we went to see the total solar eclipse near Yellowstone Park (my favorite.)
    - Not having done enough, I went on a one week Caribbean cruise in September, and then an Antarctica cruise - our seventh continent - around Thanksgiving.  Iguazu Falls in Argentina was another side trip.
  • In Jan 2018, we visited the Golden Triangle in India again (the first time was in 1996) before visiting Mumbai.
  • In May 2018, I flew to Tokyo to take a three week repositioning cruise back to Seattle.  Repositioning is where ships cruising in Asia during our winter months are repositioned for Alaska cruises in our summer months.  Instead of bringing the ship back empty, they sell these cruises for real cheap.
  • In December 2019, we took the Southeast Asia cruise from Singapore.
